Lord Wandsworth College 2nd XV vs  Claremont Fan Court School Boys-U18A
On: Wednesday, 12 Oct 2022
Venue: Away

LWC dominated the game and should have won more comfortably than the score suggests. LWC were quickly into their practiced pattern of aggressive forward carries before a well-timed release of the ball to the 10. Unfortunately, the narrow nature of the attack meant CFS were able to flood the area with defenders and restrict the metres LWC could gained. Sporadic support also allowed cost a number of turnovers. Despite much ball being won little of it reached the wings and a number of scoring chances went begging as players chose to go for individual glory. Fredd L scored from an individual effort and Jack S pounced on a loose pass for an intercept try. The half-time score of a 0 - 14 was a little laboured.

The second half was a defensive effort. LWC were pinned into their defensive third early on and spent almost 25 minutes defending. Excellent tackling Xander F, Casper L, Sam E, Xander A to name a few, prevented CFS from scoring. The situation was not helped by a loss of discipline and some talking back to the ref. The thought remains that stronger opposition would have capitalised on such a territorial advantage. LWC relieved pressure by going to the boot a couple of times and moved up the filed only to squander their best opportunity by choosing to kick again with players outside. this situation will be easier to manage if the half-backs were prepared to kick for territory. We did break out again and produced enough phases for Jack S to dummy and score. Finally, the ball reached Tom S who managed to make good ground before offloading the ball and instigating the fourth try.
