Match Report
Lord Wandsworth College 2nd XV vs  Churcher's College
On: Saturday, 16 Sep 2023
Venue: Away

there were many positives in what ended up as a disappointing defeat by 2 tries against 3. LWC showed the were able to win set piece ball from both scrum and lineout as well as ball in the loose. two excellent tries, one of which was the pick of the match, sadly proved to little.

LWC made a bright start but were unable to adapt to the lack of space on a notoriously narrow field. Space was hard to find and forwards running from the 10 rather than close to the breakdown meant space was lacking all across the field, Despite recycling ball and getting it into wide areas there were always enough defenders to cover the field. Ollie L carried tirelessly as did both props, Oscar B and Matt L. Unfortunately the carrier was often isolated and the accompanying interpretation of the ref, allowed Churchers to steal a lot of ball. LWC did not adapted to the referee as quickly and suffered for it. Promising positions were lost as ball was turned over and numerous decisions to run out of the defensive situations near our line meant much of the game was in our defensive third. Possession was even, but territory favoured the home team.
