On: Saturday, 11 Nov 2023
Venue: Away

A game that had traditionally proved difficult produced a comfortable win in what could be argued was their best performance. training ground suggestion are slowly creeping into the game plan and is contributing to the success. LWC manage eight tries that was answered by only a solitary penalty goal. After taking an early 0-7 lead from a James E try, Pangbourne replied with their three points to suggest the possibility of a close fought game at 3-7. Poor LWC defensive line speed and a commitment saw them fall off tackles and offer P territory and hope. A long awaited throw aimed at the middle of the LO started a period of LWC dominance. A promising move was ended by a forward pass before a positive tackle and turn-over allowed Ned B to run in from the resulting scrum 3-14. This was followed by an LWC interception and a try for Gerry W-C 3-21. When he caught the ensuing kick-off and set up a chance that was finished by Tom B. A half-time score of 3-26 was deserved.

Pangbourne started with a 15 player squad. The LWC aim was to keep our forwards together and involve the P eight in close quarter play in an effort to tire them out. this seemed to be working late in the first half even before the introduction of the LWC bomb squad consisting of Matt L, Hristo T, Sam H and Rocco P. The second half was less of a contest and LWC were able to relax. Further tries were scored by Tom B 3-33, Aidan W finishing well 3-40. Then came a contentious try, claimed by both Joel W and Tommy D. it was eventually attributed to Joel 3- 47, but many observers questioned whether it should have been awarded. Tommy D did get on the score sheet with the final try and completed another excellent day with the kicking tee, to slot his sixth of seven conversion attempts. to leave the score 3-54.
