Venue: Away

the Cs produced another encouraging performance that was enough to give them a 0-2 win despite being let down again by late withdrawals from the side. Strong performances last Saturday meant two players gained promotion to the B side but this was partly balanced by Rory H moving up. Disappointingly though LWC arrived with only 7 players. Thankfully Mrs Kenning came through and another 4 D team players stepped in so both sides had a bare 11.

Last week proved LWC had the measure of their opponents and whether M had strengthen the side or not LWC managed to wrest the initiative and concentrate much of the play in the M half. eventually this led to goal mouth action and LWC started to work the M keeper. Rory H had a shot saved that broke to Wilbur T who finished well low to the keepers left for the first goal. There was a lot of industry in midfield from Barney S and Zac D; the former of the two had most influence on the game, just shading Rory H. Ryan Z deserves mention for his running and countless positive contributions.

The second half had much the same pattern as the first. LWC had fallen into the trap of always moving left onto their week side putting pressure on their reverse skills instead of employing the v drag and moving right. Consequently much of the play broke down in the middle. M started to do the same and became less of a threat. That said some tentative defending did mean they had some penalty corners and forced three smart saves from Jack C who had another sound game. LWC did put together some good passages deliberate passes and positive direct running, eventually leading to a second goal scored by Rory H. There was also a series of penalty corners in the last 5 minutes that they could not finish.

Onwards, they go. Lets look to use the v drag to move right, play heads up hockey and develop the skill, technique and decision making to play the ball through when it is on. Defend by getting between the ball and our goal, track runners and ensure attacker do not get on the blind side. These adjustments will make a big difference.
