Match Report
Lord Wandsworth College Girls-U18B vs  Cranleigh School
On: Saturday, 20 Apr 2024
Venue: at Home

Well! That was one of the craziest games I've seen at U15 level. We let them score the most that I've had scored against an LWC U15 side...and then we cruised to a win by 8 wickets with 6 balls to spare!

Cranleigh chose to bat first, putting on the runs by chasing singles hard, but not necessarily finding the boundary too often. We consistently took wickets, but we also gave away a lot of extras - 68 in total, which is just over half their score. However, we were still pretty economical with our bowling, and it was great to see 5 bowlers chipping in with wickets, with 4 bowled, one excellent run out from Amber, one great catch behind from Jodie, and a couple of good catches in the field, too. For a first game with everyone a bit out of practice, we can be pleased with the bowling, but recognise that we want to find a more consistent line as a bowling unit through practice next week.

It looked a fairly tough ask, with over 6 per over as an asking rate. Amber and Daisy settled down and brought the rate to under 6 within a few overs, and it was Jodie's aggressive batting with Amber, that brought the rate to under a run a ball, when Amber was unluckily caught out by 'backstop'. However, Liv stepped up, and Jodie and Liv took the game home (in spite of a couple of fairly lucky misses by Cranleigh). Amber was chosen as the players' player, and Jodie was chosen by Cranleigh as the player of the game.

It's important for us all (me included!) to remember that we were playing an U18 side, with some on the edge of being in the Cranleigh senior A team, so we have to be pleased that they only scored about 65 off the bat, thanks to decent bowling performance from all bowlers - Amber, Lexi, Daisy, Issy, Izzy, Evie, Bella, Georgie, Liv, Alice, Orla and Daphne - on a warmer day with these overs under our belt, I know that this is a bowling attack that is going to cause some mayhem...
