In another exciting game, we produced an excellent all-round performance to keep KES at bay. With a mixed team of U15s - to U13s, as well as two boys, it felt like we were going to have an easy game, but it turned out to be a little more competitive.
Having been asked to bat, we started brilliantly - Poppy took to her new role as pinch hitter extraordinaire, regularly flaying the ball to the on-side boundary, and surviving one sitter catch to retire on 50. With her, carefully crafting a great knock, was Amber, who played some glorious shots both off her legs and square, and then was undone by a ball that kept low. After last weekend's heroics, Jodie kindly decided to let others have a go at batting by playing round her first delivery. We lost a couple of quick wickets, and there were a couple of run outs as we tried to force the pace. Issy was great at pushing for singles, and Alice and Daphne also kept the fielders on their toes.
We set a highly competitive 144 to win, and Georgie's excellent opening spell put KES on the back foot with two quick wickets. KES had some decent players, and we had a few overs where we gave away some wides and no balls, although our tally this weekend was much lower than last weekend, which is great. We were lively in the field, with a good catch taken and another sharp chance only just put down, and we slowly strangled KES, who were not able to get near the run rate needed...eventually finishing needing 50+ off the final over. All the bowlers, Bellsie, Lexi, Liv, Alice, Issy, Orla, Evie, Daphne, Amber, Georgie and Poppy consistently delivered balls on a great length, meaning that we gave away fewer runs through pulls, and meaning that we built up a good number of dot balls. Jodie kept well as always, looking for a sharp run-out chance at one point that was only just not out. Both the KES player of the game and our own players' player was Poppy, for her contribution with the bat.
And on we go to cup games next week.
